WEEK 5

Lecture:

There are three different categories of information on the Web:
1. The Free, Visible Web.
2. The Free, Invisible Web.
3. Paid Databases over the Web.
Two categories the search engine fall into:
1. Search Engines
2. Directories

A web search engine is a web-based application (program) that crawls the internet.
E.g.
1. Google www.google.com
2. Yahoo! www.yahoo.com
3. AltaVista www.altavista.com
4. AlltheWeb www.alltheweb.com

*The disadvantage of the search engine is that it comes up with so much things which you have to look for to find what you want.

Reading Summary

Reading 1 Summary- ‘Robert Harris-Web Search Strategies’

The website is showing and explaining to computer users about searching tips and strategies. usally people look for word, by using search website. the ways it explains about the different searches there are, and the 6 helpful hints to searching successfully.

Reading 2 Summary- ‘ The History of the Internet: (Chap 4- Search Engines)’

This site goes through the history of search engines. The site explains what happened in the beginning, how to find information on the net, directories, search engines, datatbases and library catalogues. This site basically summarises how search engines became what they are now and gives a few search tips tohelp with your searching.

Reading 3 Summary- ‘Search Engine Optimization for Companies’

This site is a business management site that helps you set up a web page for your business. In other words, it is a site that helps you make a website to help your business acheieve more. it also indicate the reason why some of the small businesses are incompatible with search engines, becuase they lack of sufficient descriptive text or have navigation problems.

* 1965 the computer mass was ever built.
* (WWW) Stands for World Wide Web
* TCP/IP – Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol
* HTTP – Hypertext Transfer Protocol
* DNS – Domain Name System
* URL – Uniform/Universal Resource Locator
* DNS – Domain Name System conventions
Every country has its own code for example au: Australia .UK United Kingdom .JP Japan and .NZ New Zealand.

* It talk about a country that I have never red heard of.
* It also says what's going to happen e.g. when who's visiting.
2) On the Martin Luther King web I think that I would find a useful info. about what he did in his life and how he changed the black America's history and also how he was killed and who was involved.

3) My first impression of the web (http://www.martinlutherking.org/) is that it is well researched and allots of time spent on the web and allot of effort put into it.

4) I don't think that the web (http://www.martinlutherking.org/)is very useful cause doesn't actual tell you much about Martin Luther king and it also talks about the US more than the King.
